Incidents of violence are continuing in Manipur. Two people were injured in clashes between rebels and security forces here on Friday night. Officials said that during the clashes, the mob also tried to burn houses of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.

Whole night firing was reported from Kwakta in Manipur's Bishnupur district and Kangwai in Churachandpur district. According to officials, the Iringabagh police station in Imphal West was looted and MLA Biswajit's house was also set on fire.

To stop the protesters, the Army, Assam Rifles and Manipur Rapid Action Force (RAF) took out a joint march till midnight in Imphal. He said a crowd of about a thousand tried to set fire to buildings located near the palace complex.

To pacify the crowd, the RAF fired tear gas shells and also fired rubber bullets. At midnight, the protesters gheraoed the BJP office in Shinjemai, but failed to cause any damage. The mob also tried to ransack the house of Sharda Devi, president of BJP's women's unit, but the security forces chased them away.

Earlier on Thursday, Union Minister RK Ranjan Singh's house was also attacked. The godown of a retired IAS tribal officer near the royal palace was completely gutted in a fire on Friday.

On Friday evening, the mob also clashed with RAF personnel during which the protesters also burnt tyres, wood and garbage on the roads in Wangkhei, Porompat and Thangapat, causing heavy traffic snarls.
