New Delhi: With the improvement in the air quality of India's capital Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR), construction work has been allowed to resume. With the air pollution level in Delhi falling from 'severe' to 'very poor' category, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Wednesday issued a GRAP-III (Graded Response Action Plan-III) for Delhi-NCR. Issuing instructions to remove the restrictions imposed under the Act with immediate effect, the construction work has been allowed to resume.
Restrictions under GRAP-I and GRAP-II will continue
Along with this, the report also states that with the easing of restrictions by the CAQM, apart from the commencement of construction work in Delhi-NCR, demolition at the project site, introduction of petrol-powered BS-IV and diesel-powered BS-IV -III vehicles will also be allowed to run. According to the report, although the CAQM has directed relaxation of the restrictions imposed under GRAP-III, the restrictions imposed under GRAP-I and GRAP-II will continue as before. It has been said in the report that apart from implementing these, the concerned agencies of Delhi-NCR will also monitor and review them, so that the level of AQI can be prevented from going into the 'severe' category.
At present, AQI is not likely to go into 'severe' category
According to media reports, the sub-committee held a review meeting to initiate action under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) after the significant improvement in the air quality of Delhi-NCR. The overall air quality index (AQI) of Delhi stood at 304 on Wednesday. According to the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, the air quality index is unlikely to move into the 'severe' category in the next few days.
Industrial units violating rules will remain closed
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said in an order that air pollution in Delhi is likely to improve and remain in the 'poor' to 'very poor' category in the coming days amid favorable meteorological conditions. On this basis, the GRAP sub-committee decided to cancel the restrictions imposed under GRAP-III in Delhi-NCR with immediate effect. The CAQM also said that industrial units that have been issued closure orders for violation or non-compliance of rules will not resume their operations under any circumstances.
