A chariot caught fire after coming in contact with a high tension electric wire in Tripura's Unakoti district. 6 people died in this accident, while 15 others were injured. According to the police, the incident took place around 4.30 pm during the Ulta Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Kumar Ghat area.
A police official said, "Thousands of devotees were pulling the chariot made of iron, when the 133 KV wire touched the top of the chariot." AIG (Law and Order) Jyotishman Das Chowdhary told that six people died on the spot while 15 were burnt, whose condition remains critical. Chief Minister Manik Saha has expressed grief over the deaths.
In a tragic accident at Kumarghat, several pilgrims lost their lives and several others were injured due to electrocution while pulling the 'upside down chariot', he said.
