Trump Administration Investigates Former Director of the FBI and Head of the CIA During Obama Term
Trump said Brennan and Comey are corrupt as hell amid FBI investigation into former officials
The FBI is investigating James Comey, its former director during Barack Obama's second term, and John Brennan, the head of the CIA under President Barack Obama, for possible false statements to Congress and mismanagement, CNN reported Wednesday.
It was a review of "lessons learned" on the creation of the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) of 2017.
The case of James Come joins the controversy that has accompanied him since last May, when the former FBI chief published a photo of the numbers "86 47" written by shells during a trip to the beach, which quickly after Republicans and Trump allies said he was threatening to kill the president.
"I didn't realize that some people associate those numbers with violence," Comey said of the number "86," which can refer to something being discarded or taken out. The corresponding “47” coincides with Trump’s current term as the 47th president. “It never occurred to me, but I oppose any kind of violence, so I removed the post.”
At the time, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the Secret Service would investigate Comey for what she said was a call “to assassinate” Trump.
In the case of this new investigation, the ICA, as Fox News also reported, alleged that Russia tried to influence the 2016 presidential election to help Trump, then a candidate. But the review found that the process of creating the ICA was rushed, with “procedural anomalies,” and that officials deviated from intelligence norms.
According to CNN, That document doesn’t challenge the intelligence community’s view that Putin favored Trump over then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, but it does argue that Brennan risked “stifling analytical debate” by signaling ahead of time that there was a consensus. NBC News added that Brennan claims he had not been contacted by the Justice Department or the CIA about the inquiries. Trump stressed Wednesday at a news conference with African leaders that the two men are “very dishonest” and should pay a price: “I think they’re really bad people. Whatever happens, happens,” he said. CNN highlighted that at the heart of the debate are the statements the two men made to Congress about the Russian interference investigation. According to Fox News, which first reported the news, the scope of the criminal investigations into Brennan and Comey is unclear, but two sources described the FBI’s view on Their interactions as a “conspiracy,” which could open up a wide range of possible procedural options.
