Jake Paul on criticism for fight with Davis: Everyone is going to see it
Jake Paul commented that no matter what he does, the fans always have something to say and took the opportunity to praise Tank Davis for the risk he is taking
Jake Paul responded to criticism for the announcement of his fight against Gervonta Davis, who weighs 65 pounds less than him, and made it clear that everyone is going to see the fight on November 14 anyway.
In an interview with Boxing Scene, Paul commented that no matter what he does, the fans always have something to say and took the opportunity to praise Tank Davis for the risk he is taking by facing him.
“I don’t care because, first of all, they’re going to see it, everyone’s going to see it and what I tell people is, if you don’t like something, don’t talk about it because all you do is make it bigger. But at the end of the day, people will always have something to say about each of my fights, I’m facing a top 10 pound-for-pound fighter, this is a bigger risk for Gervonta than Floyd (Mayweather) took against Conor (McGregor) in 2017. Conor wasn’t a boxer, Conor didn’t have a weight advantage,” he said.
“Gervonta is taking a bigger risk than Floyd, in my opinion, and it’s a credit to him for that weight difference and that’s what makes this a good, even fight: his skill and experience as a top 10 pound for pound, and then my weight and height advantage. I think there are few names in the sport that draw crowds, are entertaining, and are also great fighters, and I was always intrigued to have a fight with him because I like to put on big events, I like to challenge myself,” he added.
This fight comes as a bit of a surprise to fans, since Jake Paul’s last fight was at 200 pounds and Gervonta Davis is a lightweight (65 pounds difference). According to journalist Mike Coppinger, the rules of this exhibition are expected to be similar to the fight between his brother Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather.
On that occasion, "Mayweather could not weigh more than 160 while Logan had a limit of 190," the journalist explained on his social networks.
Remember that Paul comes from defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by unanimous decision last June, while Tank Davis starred in a controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr. and retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) title.
Jake Paul, 27, has five positive results after suffering his first defeat against Tommy Fury by split decision, brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. The American YouTuber also has a record of 12 wins (six by knockout) and one loss.
Meanwhile, Gervonta Davis, 29, maintained his immaculate record after controversially drawing with Roach. The American regular WBA lightweight world champion has a record of 30 wins, 28 of them by knockout, and one draw.
