Erickson Lubin wants to shut up all his critics with a great performance against Vergil Ortiz Jr., interim World Boxing Council (WBC) junior middleweight champion, on November 8 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

In an interview with MillCity Boxing, Lubin commented that a victory against Ortiz Jr. will solidify him as the best in the division and make amends for past losses.

“My job is to go out on November 8 and shut everyone up. All that talk doesn't mean anything. What matters is that I'm facing Vergil Ortiz. I'm not worried about the past. I'm going to make amends for those losses. That's what makes you a fighter. Some people give up on that,” he said.

“We're going to go out and solidify who's the best in the division. They have Vergil Ortiz as the number one in the division 154 pounds. Beating a guy like that will solidify me as the best. With my summary, it will put me at the top," he added.

According to experts' predictions, Vergil Ortiz Jr. is the favorite to take the win, but some think that Erickson Lubin can complicate things for the Mexican American or see the fight as very even due to the skills of both.

Erickson Lubin is one of the main contenders of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) at 154 pounds and, despite not being the underdog, he wants to upset the Mexican American. The American entered the ring on May 10, 2025 against Ardreal Holmes Jr. and defeated him by technical knockout in the 11th round.

On the other hand, in his last appearance, Ortiz Jr. faced Israil Madrimov in a tough fight where he used his jab and defense to win by unanimous decision and retain his WBC 154-pound title.

Erickson Lubin, 29, will face Ortiz Jr. with the intention of taking his interim title. The American fighter has a record of 27 wins, 18 by knockout, and two losses.

For his part, Vergil Ortiz Jr., 27, defended his WBC interim championship and is willing to face whoever comes next. The Mexican-American boxer maintains his undefeated record after 23 fights, 21 of them by knockout, in his professional career.
