Dr Ami Bera
Indian-American Congressman Dr. Ami Bera has announced his candidacy for the powerful Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Bera, 57, has been the longest-serving Indian-American Congressman in history, serving as the chief medical officer of Sacramento County in California before being sworn in as Congress in 2013. On his way to be re-elected for a sixth consecutive term, Bera currently serves as frontline president for the DCCC, where he is responsible for overseeing efforts to re-elect Democratic members of Congress to competitive seats.

Bera was leading his Republican opponent by more than 11,000 of 52 percent of the votes counted in California's Sixth Congressional District by more than 11,000 votes. The elections were held on 8 November. Bera announced his candidacy for the DCCC in an aide letter to members of his party in the House of Representatives. With this in mind, I am writing to you today seeking your support for my candidacy as the next President of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), Bera wrote. Thank you for the strong performance of our members and their campaigns. Not only did our front liners win close races, but we have also broadened and strengthened our base through a historic turnout of young voters.

With many votes yet to be counted, it is clear that the American people believe in our Families-First agenda, which we put forth in the 117th Congress. Working together, we have passed landmark legislation that has created record job creation. Lower prescription drug costs and health care premiums, and generational improvements to our infrastructure and environment came. The Indian American Congressman immediately got the support of many of his allies.

Congressman Colin Allred said that after helping Ami lead efforts to protect and expand our electoral map, I know he is the most experienced member to lead the DCCC. Most importantly, Ami is the facilitator of unity. As we look to 2024, he will be a strong supporter of our allies from all parts of our diverse caucus. Congress member Kim Shear said Ami knows how to compete and win in purple districts across the country, including districts like mine. He has the requisite experience to lead the DCCC.
