Collapse of structure in stadium leaves three dead and more than 70 injured

Three people died and more than 70 were injured in an incident on Saturday night at the 5 de Julio 1962 football stadium in Algiers, Algeria, during which several fans fell from the top of the stands, the Algerian Ministry of Health reported on Sunday.

"The Beni Sessous University Hospital received 38 of the injured, while three deaths were recorded," the Ministry detailed today.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune offered his condolences to the families of those killed in the "painful tragedy" at the capital's stadium, where the trophy ceremony was canceled.
Algerian authorities have opened an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
