Julio Cesar Chavez spoke out after his son's unanimous decision defeat against Jake Paul and assured that Junior gave him the fight on Saturday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
In statements to Fight Hype, the Great Mexican Champion, despite the setback, expressed that he felt very proud of Chavez Jr. and congratulated him for his performance against Paul.
“I feel proud, the truth is, because after coming from such difficult, complicated years, getting into the ring, well, to overcome those demons, you know what I mean, the truth is, I feel happy, proud because he put up a good fight. He didn’t lose the fight, he gave the fight away, the first rounds, because my son won the last rounds, let that be very clear,” he said.
“But the main thing is that he is clean, he is clean, and well, it’s the beginning of a rebirth, you know? So many years with that addiction and to return to the ring, after two years, almost without fighting, the truth is, I congratulate my son,” he added.
