Kilmar Abrego, Salvadoran immigrant who by mistake had been deported, manages to get out of jail
Kilmar Abrego managed to regain his freedom after several months that included a stay in a maximum security prison in El Salvador
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Salvadoran immigrant who by mistake had been deported from the United States to a maximum security prison in his country, managed to get a judge's ruling that allowed him to leave a prison in Tennessee.
His case gained enormous relevance because the 29-year-old Central American had been living in the United States for more than 14 years and also had a court order prohibiting his deportation.
Despite this, he was transferred to the maximum security prison known as the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), located 74 kilometers from San Salvador.
“This is the hand of the man that Democrats believe should return to the United States, because he is 'an excellent and innocent person'.
They said he is not a member of MS-13, even though he has the name MS-13 tattooed on his knuckles, and two highly respected courts determined that he was a member of MS-13, he beat his wife, etc.," he said.
Despite these accusations, pressure from several immigrant and human rights groups managed to have Kilmar Abrego sent back to the United States.
However, the immigrant had to spend several weeks in prison while his case was reviewed.
This Friday, Barbara Holmes, judge of the Middle District of Tennessee, granted Kilmar Abrego Garcia his freedom.
He now has 48 hours to get to his brother's house in a Maryland suburb, where he will live under certain conditions, including reporting to immigration officials at the ICE field office in Baltimore.
