Fernando Alonso criticizes F1: 'There is excess of everything except spectacle'
Fernando Alonso finished eighth in qualifying for the Qatar GP and did not hold back against the FIA ????restrictions
Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso criticized F1 at the Qatar Grand Prix in Lusail due to the limitations imposed by the FIA ????on the cars.
In his opinion, they are "very Limited in strategy by FIA regulations regarding tires and fuel.
“We had a maximum of four sets for qualifying, so we used two for Q1 and two in Q2, meaning we didn't have any new compounds for Q3 because we initially thought we wouldn't make it.”
In his opinion, “this is what Formula 1 is like: we have an excess of everything except things that make for a good show. I enjoyed qualifying, but in the race we have to suffer."
Alonso qualified eighth for Sunday's race. The Spaniard explained that they are aiming to finish ahead of the Sauber and Haas cars.
“We haven't started on the clean side since July; it's a matter of luck that I've already given up hope on, but now the priority is to be ahead of the Haas and Sauber cars at the end of the race,” said the two-time champion.
“We start eighth. “From there we have to develop a strategy to score some points and gain some ground heading into Abu Dhabi,” said the man from Oviedo.
Max Verstappen feels far behind McLaren at Qatar GP
Red Bull's Dutch driver Max Verstappen acknowledged after finishing third in qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix that, although they have “improved somewhat” compared to Friday, they are still “very far behind the McLarens.”
“The bouncing issue we had with the car that was preventing us from finding our rhythm is over, and we were a bit better in Q3, but we are still far behind. I felt better, but it's not enough,” said the title contender.
