New Hampshire therapist accused of sexually assaulting patient during session
Daniel Thibeault, a pre-licensed therapist, took advantage of the victim knowing her marital status and history of abuse.
A pre-licensed therapist, accused of sexually assaulting a patient in Bow, is being held without bail.
Daniel Thibeault, 51, of Laconia, is charged with aggravated felony sexual assault.
Court documents provided some details of what the alleged victim said happened in Thibeault's office in August.
Thibeault is a pre-licensed therapist, meaning he is in the process of obtaining his full license, and worked as an independent contractor for a nonprofit mental health organization.
The alleged victim told police that she first contacted Thibeault in July when she and her husband began couples therapy. She said they only attended a few sessions together before she moved out and began individual sessions.
On August 20, police received a call from her father reporting an alleged sexual assault. The woman told police that Thibeault began by rubbing essential oils on her body and making her wear stress-monitoring devices.
According to court documents, Thibeault then began licking her ear, feet, and legs, and later lifted her up and sat her on a couch.
She told police that she asked him to stop several times. She stated that Thibeault told her he was trying to make her feel beautiful again and that he was attracted to her. She told police that she felt scared at the time and feels he took advantage of her, knowing her marital status and history of abuse. The woman was examined at a hospital, and police reported that DNA was found on her body. News 9 reported that Thibeault was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2016 after a federal investigation found he had embezzled more than $15 million from a Massachusetts investment fund he managed. Thibeault is in pretrial detention and is scheduled to appear in court later this month. Police are asking any other potential victims or anyone with information about the case or any similar incidents to contact them.
