Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced Thursday that Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents with "exemplary service" during the government shutdown will receive a $10,000 bonus check.
Noem's announcement came at an airport in Houston, Texas, following the end of a 43-day government shutdown.
Noem stated that the bonuses, in addition to back pay, are “for their dedication, for working extra shifts, and for showing up to work every day.” She announced the bonuses at a press conference in Houston, accompanied by agents, and said that other employees across the country would be recognized.
“We will continue not only to recognize employees across the country, but we will also consider every TSA officer who provided their services during this government shutdown, and we will do everything we can to recognize their work and help them financially with a bonus so that they and their families can recover,” Noem said.
