Two federal employees accuse the husband of the Secretary of Labor of sexual assault
Shawn DeRemer, husband of the current Secretary of Labor, is accused of allegedly sexually assaulting two federal employees
Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Secretary of Labor, continues to generate controversy after two federal employees accused her husband, Shawn DeRemer, of sexually assaulting them.
Recently, it was revealed that the office of the inspector general of the department The Office of Government Inquiry (OIG) is investigating whether Jihun Han, the 59-year-old Republican's top aide, and Rebecca Wright, who serves as her right-hand woman, committed "travel fraud" by scheduling personal events with family and friends, paid for with taxpayer money, as if they were part of her work schedule. Both employees have been temporarily suspended pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. In addition, Lori Chavez-DeRemer has also been accused of allegedly having an affair with a security officer assigned to protect her and of drinking alcohol at work, allegations that have not been substantiated. "There is not a shred of truth to this, and anyone who knows my wife would know that," Shawn DeRemer said in a statement to the New York Post. The controversial aspect of the matter is that the anesthesiologist, who has been married to the current Secretary of Labor since 1991 and with whom he has twin daughters, has now been reported by two employees after he allegedly touched them inappropriately while they were working inside the department's main building, which is named after Frances Perkins, the first woman to serve in the US cabinet. According to two people familiar with the incident, who spoke to The New York Times on condition of anonymity, there is security camera footage from December 18 showing Dr. Shawn DeRemer hugging a woman. This footage is being analyzed by the Metropolitan Police Department to determine exactly what happened that day. The husband of the Secretary of Labor was barred from entering the building. During an interview with the Wall Street Journal, DeRemer denied the allegations against her. "I have not done any of this and I categorically deny it. I will categorically fight everything related to this," she stated. It should be noted that, prior to being nominated to join President Donald Trump's cabinet,Lori Chavez-DeRemer lost her seat as a congresswoman representing part of the Portland metropolitan area in 2024.
