Sheinbaum denounces media campaign against him by the extreme right in the US and Mexico that seeks foreign interference
The Mexican president called on the people of Mexico to hold informational assemblies in public squares to inform about the defense and sovereignty of Mexico
On the occasion of her second anniversary of the electoral victory of June 2, 2024, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, gave a speech in which she denounced a media offensive against her that aims to interfere and discredit her government.
"For a few months now we have been the object of a media offensive and million-dollar campaigns on social networks. It is no coincidence, behind them are the national and international conservative sectors that never accepted that Mexico regained its dignity and decided to fully exercise its independence. Let us understand that today the forms of destabilization promoted by the international right have changed a little, but not in purpose. They are no longer always imposed by force as in the past, today they can be expressed through digital campaigns, disinformation operations that "They seek to erode governments or movements," he denounced.
From the Monument to the Revolution in Mexico City, the Mexican president stated that this campaign intensified after the death of two American CIA agents in Mexican territory.
“This campaign to which I am referring intensified after the unfortunate death in an accident of two US agents without official identification, and of two commanders of the Attorney General's Office of Chihuahua who were participating in a visit to a drug laboratory, was made public on April 19, because the dismantling was carried out by the Attorney General's Office of the Republic,” he stated.
"Here we want to be very clear, the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States and the National Security Law establish precisely that no foreign agent can carry out tasks that correspond exclusively to the Mexican authorities," he said.
He said that the campaign against him was even “more serious” after the United States accusation against the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, and other Mexican officials, whom he linked to drug trafficking.
"A few days later, something even more serious occurred: An office of the United States Department of Justice urgently requested the detention for extradition purposes of ten Mexican citizens, including a governor, a mayor and a sitting senator, without publicly presenting evidence to support those requests. An event of that magnitude is unprecedented in the history of our bilateral relationship," he said.
Before thousands of followers and intense heat in the Mexican capital, Sheinbaum Pardo reiterated that Mexico is not the piñata of any foreign government and questioned the interest of the American extreme right to position itself in the internal and Mexican elections.
"The legitimate question arises, is it really legitimate, genuine, to help Mexico, is it really a legitimate interest to combat organized crime or perhaps we are seeing how sectors of the American extreme right use our country to position themselves towards their 2026 elections? Or do they perhaps intend to influence the 2027 election in our country? These are not rhetorical questions, Mexico is no one's piñata!", he questioned.
"When from the outside it is dictated who is guilty and who is not, when it seeks to pressure our institutions from the outside, when the idea that another country can intervene in matters that only correspond to Mexicans is normalized, we are no longer talking about cooperation, we are talking about interference. And Mexico, let it be heard clearly and loudly, does not accept interference, we are a free, independent and sovereign country," he stated.
"We have been very clear in the case of the authorities of the neighboring country to the north: to help us reduce violence in Mexico, it is essential to stop arms trafficking, and it is essential that they address the serious problem of drug consumption in their territory. Just as we act in ours, they must also break the drug distribution chains and the money laundering that occurs in the United States," he mentioned.
"It is better to work together as trading partners, respecting each other, and strengthening the common interest with respect to our sovereignties, but it must be very clear that Mexico does not admit interference in internal affairs because we do not interfere in other nations," he said.
Given the possibility of foreign intervention by the United States in Mexico, the head of the Mexican executive called on the people to hold consultations in defense of Mexico's sovereignty.
"Who decides in Mexico, the foreign agencies or the people? Who decides in Mexico, the big economic interests or the people? Are we going to defend the sovereignty and independence of Mexico? Are we going to defend the transformation? I call on you to go to public squares starting next week to hold informational assemblies, distribute flyers and newspapers and inform the people that the country is not for sale, the country is loved and defended," he called.
It was on June 2, 2024 that Sheinbaum Pardo won the presidential elections and was sworn in as the country's leader on October 1 of that same year, replacing Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
