Indian scientists have discovered a technique through which only a single sample can confirm influenza A, B and coronavirus infectious diseases. So far this technology is not even available with countries like America, China, Japan and Russia. There is a technology in Europe, but it is antigen based, which is not used for treatment.
Scientists from New Delhi-based Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV) have discovered multiplex single tube real time RT PCR technology. The report obtained from this RT PCR technique is considered to be the best and of the highest quality. On the basis of its confirmation, the doctor decides the treatment of the patient. Re-infection in the patient or co-infection in the same patient can also be detected through this technique. Soon its kit will be available in the market.
100% accurate result
Researcher NIV Senior Scientist Dr. Varsha Potdar said, To know its results on patients, some clinical trials were done, in which samples of more than 100 patients were taken. It was found that the technique gave 98, 99 and 100 percent accurate results on influenza A, B and corona virus respectively. Its kit can be kept safe for a long time at -20 degree temperature. Its expiry period is one year, to increase which separate research is going on.
That's why it's necessary
According to Dr. Rajeev Behl, Director General, ICMR, the recent outbreak of coronavirus and different types of influenza infection has affected a large population. The similar symptoms of these infectious diseases confused even the doctors. Was it difficult to find out which infection a patient has? That's why separate tests are advised, but now we don't need it.
Proposal sought from private companies
ICMR has sought proposals from private companies to manufacture test kits using this technology in India. According to ICMR, the way they had tied up with Bharat Biotech Company for its production and distribution after discovering the corona vaccine. Similarly, now this technology will also be transferred, for which all the legal documents have been prepared.
