The Foreign Contribution Act License (FCRA) of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, surrounded by allegations of misappropriation of foreign funding, was canceled on Sunday. The Central Government has ordered cancellation of the license. Let us inform that the Central Government has taken this decision on the basis of an investigation report. The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has been accused of huge irregularities in foreign funding. The decision to get it investigated was taken by the central government in the year 2020.

Talking to news agency PTI, an official said, "Yes, the decision to cancel the FCRA license has been taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs after the investigation against the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson of the RGF, while its other trustees include former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former finance minister P. Chidambaram, Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Foundation was established in 1991
According to the website of RGF, it was established in 1991. The website states that from 1991 to 2009, RGF worked in many important areas including health, science and technology and education sector, apart from helping women, children and disabled people.
BJP leader had accused of wrongdoing
The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation was accused by many leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party of rigging and malpractices. BJP veteran Ravi Shankar Prasad had alleged that Rajiv Gandhi Foundation gets funding from China. He had said that according to the law, no political party can take funding from abroad without the permission of the government. Pointing to the Congress party, he said, whether the Congress had taken permission from the government for funding from abroad or not. The party should clarify this.
