Heat wave likely in East India in May
According to IMD, temperatures are likely to be above normal in May in many parts of East India including Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. There is also a forecast of heat wave in these areas for a few days. The IMD said that parts of northwest and west-central India are likely to experience warm night weather. Day temperature is expected to be below normal.
If the IMD is to be believed, normal or above normal rainfall may occur over northwest and west-central parts of the country including parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh in May. Apart from this, less than normal rainfall is expected in many parts of Northeast region, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and South Karnataka.

Mohapatra said that the neutral IOD conditions prevailing over the Indian Ocean augur well for the upcoming season. Such conditions are considered good for the Indian monsoon and can reduce the effect of El Nino.
