Former Congress President and former MP Rahul Gandhi reached Manipur on Thursday. While going from here to Imphal, the police stopped his convoy on the way. According to information, Rahul's convoy has been stopped in Bishnupur district, about 20 km before Imphal. Police is not allowing them to go ahead in view of incidents of violence and arson in the area.

Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal told that Rahul Gandhi's convoy has been stopped by the police near Bishnupur. Police says they are not in a position to give us permission. People stand on both sides of the road to greet Rahul Gandhi. We are not able to understand why they have stopped us?

Actually, Rahul Gandhi will be in Manipur today and tomorrow i.e. on 29-30 June. During this he will visit relief camps. He will interact with representatives of civil society in Imphal and Churachandpur. He will also visit relief camps.

Rahul's decision to go to Manipur has come to the fore when recently the Union Home Minister held an all-party meeting on the situation in Manipur. This is the Congress leader's first visit to the northeastern state engulfed in caste violence since May 3. The Congress has blamed the BJP and its "divisive politics" for the current situation in the state. Apart from this, the Congress has demanded that the Chief Minister of the state be sacked with immediate effect. An all-party delegation should be sent there to restore peace.

We had thought that the PM would go to Manipur before going to America and talk to the people there and the Home Minister had also called a meeting, but no solution was found. Our demand was that an all-party delegation should be taken to Manipur and we should propose a dialogue with the people, but neither the Prime Minister nor anyone else is speaking about it. China has a hand in Manipur violence, but the government is not ready to name China. If in this situation Rahul Gandhi goes to Manipur and talk to the people there and peace is proposed then we welcome his visit

At the same time, AICC in-charge of Nagaland Ajay Kumar said that the central government is trying to make Manipur disappear from the news.
