Angered by the open rebellion in the Rajasthan unit of Congress, party president Sonia Gandhi has sought a report from party observers Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken. At the same time, action is likely to be taken against some leaders considered loyal to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on charges of indiscipline. Party sources gave this information. Kharge and Maken were sent as observers to Jaipur for the Congress Legislature Party meeting. He briefed Gandhi about the developments in the evening after returning to Delhi and termed the parallel meeting organized by MLAs loyal to Gehlot as indiscipline.

Party sources say that as per the instructions of Sonia Gandhi, both the observers will submit their reports to the Congress President. Asked whether action can be taken against some of the pro-Gehlot leaders, a senior Congress leader said, "If the party has considered Sunday's developments as indiscipline, then action is possible in such a situation." Gehlot loyalists on Sunday evening submitted their resignation letters to Speaker CP Joshi and pressurized the central leadership to choose someone from the Gehlot camp as the chief minister in case the chief minister is elected party president. Loyal MLAs indicated that they were against the appointment of Sachin Pilot, who led the rebellion against Gehlot in 2020, as chief minister.

According to sources, Sonia Gandhi is reportedly upset with the developments in Rajasthan as Gehlot was being considered as her successor for the top post. Sources have also told that Gehlot told both the observers that he was not involved in the developments in Jaipur and the MLAs involved were not listening to him. Meanwhile, the party leadership is making efforts to resolve the crisis of the Rajasthan unit and in this sequence, party President Sonia Gandhi held an in-depth consultation with former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath. It is believed that Kamal Nath has a good relationship with Gehlot and he can play his role in resolving the crisis.

This entire development in Rajasthan has reduced the chances of Gehlot becoming the Congress President. Now speculations are on about Kamal Nath, Digvijay Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Kharge, Kumari Selja and some other names. By the way, Kamal Nath said that he is not interested in the post of president. Kharge and Maken returned to Delhi on Monday and met Sonia Gandhi at 10-Janpath after the legislature party meeting could not be held in Jaipur and MLAs supporting Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took a rebellious stand.
