At her Senate confirmation hearing for U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi, broadly promised that “politics has to be removed from this system.”

However, now a coalition of 70 attorneys and former Florida Supreme Court justices and law professors has filed a complaint against the U.S. attorney general. United, Pam Bondi, whom they accuse of having violated her ethics pledge.

The complaint, filed with the Bar Association, alleges that Bondi has attempted to coerce Justice Department lawyers, under threat of dismissal or sanctions, if they do not “zealously comply with the political objectives of President” Donald Trump, reports the Miami Herald.

The coalition of legal scholars asserted in its complaint that Bondi’s conduct violates Bar rules and Justice Department regulations.

The newspaper also indicated that the lawyers recalled that the Florida Bar dismissed two other ethics complaints recently filed against Bondi for “failing to investigate and prosecute officials appointed under the United States Constitution while in office.”

However, the coalition responded that “the Florida Bar’s dismissal is not supported by history or precedent” and that none of its rules exempt a Florida-licensed attorney who is accused of abuse her position as a federal public servant, the Herald adds.

For its part, the Department of Justice responded to the complaint, in a statement to the Herald in which it indicated that the Bar Association has twice rejected the lawyers' attempts to "use the Bar's complaint process as a weapon against the Attorney General."
