Children with special needs found eating spoiled meat after their mother abandoned them in Michigan
Krystal Farmer faces multiple charges after police found her two children alone for several days in unsanitary conditions
A Michigan mother was arrested after police found her two children with special needs alone for several days in her home in Flint.
Krystal Farmer, 35, was charged with two counts of child abandonment, four counts of child abuse, and lying to a police officer.
The Flint Township Police Department reported in a Facebook post that the incident came to light on February 18 when a concerned neighbor called 911 to request a welfare check at the home. Upon entering, officers found the two children alone, with no adults present. According to police, the interior of the home was covered in trash, with walls stained with human waste and the floor so saturated with garbage that officers "could not take a normal step." Additionally, a faucet was left running, overflowing onto the floor. One of the children was found eating raw, spoiled meat, while the other was hiding on the floor of a bedroom. Body camera footage released by authorities shows one of the children naked and the other covered in feces.
“The place had been reduced to survival conditions,” officers said.
Previous Suspicions and Legal Proceedings
A neighbor, identified as Christy Ogles-Campbell, told the local CBS affiliate that she suspected something was wrong at the residence “at least since September,” though she said she never imagined the extent of the situation.
Authorities said Farmer initially lied during questioning, but investigators dismantled her story and concluded that she left the children alone for several days.
Police said the children “are now safe” thanks to a neighbor who reported the situation.
Online court records show a bond order was issued on Monday. Although no details have been released regarding the amount or the current status of the accused's imprisonment.
