Cleanup efforts are progressing gradually after an intense winter storm hit Southern California during Christmas week.
The greatest impact was in San Bernardino County, in the mountain community of Wrightwood, where the heavy rains triggered landslides and mudflows, destroying a highway and leaving thousands of residents without power. The Oriole Road area was buried after a torrent of water swept mud, debris, and charred wood from the mountains down to homes on the hillsides.
