As authorities released Tiger Woods' mugshot after the legendary golfer was arrested in Florida for allegedly driving under the influence, President Donald Trump reacted to the news of the accident Friday afternoon.
Tiger Woods escaped injury after the Tiger Woods' Land Rover overturned in Jupiter, Florida. But the biggest golf star was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), property damage, and refusing to take a urine drug test. The driver of the other vehicle involved was also unharmed. Post-collision images show Tiger Woods standing next to the overturned SUV making a call on his cell phone. What did Donald Trump say about Tiger Woods' accident? President Donald Trump, upon learning of the incident, said he felt "very bad" about the news. "He's having some difficulties. There was an accident, and that's all I know," Trump said upon landing in Miami on Friday. “He’s a very close friend, he’s an incredible person, an incredible man. But he’s having some difficulties.” When a reporter asked Trump if Tiger Woods had been hurt, the president turned away and said, “I don’t want to talk about it.” In 2019, Woods received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor, from Trump at the White House. The 50-year-old golfer is in a romantic relationship with Vanessa Trump, the president’s former daughter-in-law and ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., with whom she had five children. Tiger Woods in county jail for at least eight hours. A Martin County Sheriff’s deputy said Woods tested negative for alcohol but showed signs of “deterioration.” The police officer added that the athlete would remain in the county jail for at least eight hours and would then be released on bail. Furthermore, the officer added that Woods “was cooperative, although he did not want to incriminate himself,” and that he was “lethargic at the scene” of the incident.
Woods' accident was caused by “high-speed overtaking”
The accident occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. GMT) when the vehicle driven by Woods attempted to overtake a pickup truck with a trailer “at high speed” on a narrow road, but ended up hitting the rear of the other vehicle and rolling onto its driver's side.
“An investigation was launched and, initially, from the outset, it appeared that the driver of the Land Rover (Tiger Woods) may have been under the influence of some substance,” he stated.
This is not the first time Woods has been involved in a road accident. In February 2021, he suffered open fractures to his tibia and fibula after a serious crash in Los Angeles that seriously jeopardized his career.
Woods was working towards a return to racing after rupturing his Achilles tendon in 2025.
