The Mexican mayor of the municipality of San Felipe, Baja California, Jose Luis Dagnino Lopez, announced on his social media that the United States government revoked his tourist visa and that he does not know the cause or reason.
In a post on his Facebook account, Dagnino Lopez, of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena), stated that he was notified of the visa revocation without an “explanation or reason” from US authorities. “It is important to clarify that, up to this point, I have not received official information about the cause or reason that led US authorities to make this decision, similar to what has happened with various public figures in the country and in our state,” the mayor stated regarding the revocation of this document for nearly fifty Mexican politicians and officials by the Donald Trump administration. In the Mexican state of Baja California, the public notice of visa cancellations began on May 10 with the cases of Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda and her then-husband Carlos Torres Torres. Also, the husband of the Mayor of Mexicali, Luis Samuel Guerrero Delgado, had his visa revoked, while Norma Alicia Bustamante only retains hers because she has not dared to cross the border, as she stated. publicly.
And the congresswoman, as well as former mayor of Playas de Rosarito, Araceli Brown Figueredo, was also sanctioned, in addition to being accused of alleged ties to organized crime.
On the other hand, in the message, Dagnino Lopez reiterated his commitment to “legality, transparency, and public responsibility,” explaining that he is “taking the necessary steps to understand the origin of this decision” and “proceeding in accordance with the law and diplomatic procedures.”
He also assured that this measure by the US government will not interfere with his responsibilities or activities as mayor of San Felipe. “I will continue working with the same dedication, closeness, and conviction that have always characterized me,” he stated. Regarding the case, various Mexican media outlets reported that the USgovernment detained Dagnino Lopez for 12 hours at the Centro, California, border crossing, where he attempted to enter the country to attend an official event to receive a donation for his local fire department. The verification and cancellation of visas by the US is part of a policy that seeks to identify individuals who pose a threat to public safety due to ties with organized crime groups or self-proclaimed terrorists, as well as figures who contradict the country's interests.
