Hispanic woman rejected for new sentence for the murder of her son in Los Angeles
Pearl Sinthia Fernandez sought a new sentence after being sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2018 murder of her 8-year-old son, Gabriel
A Hispanic woman who pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the beating death of her 8-year-old son had her request for a new sentence rejected again this Monday by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge.
Pearl Sinthia Fernandez, of 42 years old, was sentenced in March 2018 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of her son, Gabriel Fernandez, in May 2013. Since then, Fernandez has filed two appeals to have her sentence reviewed, arguing that she can no longer be convicted of murder, citing recent changes in state law that affect defendants in some homicide cases.
