Addressing a query about the possibility of the Durga Puja celebrations being disrupted, Hossain reassured worshippers that the annual festival will continue without any interference, stating that Durga Puja has been celebrated in the country for ages.

Speaking to the media, Hossain said, “This is quite strange. There could be a fringe that may not like Durga Puja. Durga Puja has been performed in this country for ages and there have been no instances when Durga Puja was not held.” His comments came as a response to concerns raised by certain sections of society regarding the safety and sanctity of religious celebrations in Bangladesh.

Durga Puja: A Long-standing Tradition in Bangladesh

Durga Puja, one of the most significant festivals for Hindus, has a rich history in Bangladesh, especially among the minority Hindu community. The festival has been celebrated for centuries, with worshippers taking part in elaborate rituals, cultural programs, and processions to honor Goddess Durga. The traditions surrounding Durga Puja are deeply rooted in the country’s diverse cultural heritage, and its observance has always been an integral part of religious harmony.

Md. Touhid Hossain emphasized that the worshippers who wish to perform Durga Puja will have the full opportunity to do so. “Certainly, the worshipers who want to perform Durga Puja, they have the opportunity to do so. There should be no doubt about this,” he added. His comments serve to calm the apprehensions of the Hindu community and other citizens who were concerned about any potential disturbances to the celebration of the festival.

Concerns Over Religious Festivities

In recent years, there have been occasional incidents of unrest and disturbances during religious festivities in Bangladesh. These incidents have raised concerns among religious minorities about the safety of their religious practices. However, the government has consistently assured the protection of all religious groups and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and harmony.

Md. Touhid Hossain’s statement underlines the government’s commitment to ensuring that Durga Puja, like any other religious festival in Bangladesh, will be celebrated without hindrance. He acknowledged that there may be a fringe section of society that holds negative views about Durga Puja, but stressed that such views should not cloud the overall environment of peace and tolerance in the country.

A Message of Religious Harmony

Hossain’s remarks come as a message of reassurance for the Hindu community in Bangladesh. Durga Puja is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country, and the government’s support for its uninterrupted observance reflects Bangladesh’s dedication to upholding religious harmony. The festival is not just a religious event but also a cultural celebration that unites people from different walks of life, showcasing the country’s rich diversity.

As the festival approaches, worshippers across Bangladesh can rest assured that their traditions and celebrations will be upheld. The government’s focus remains on providing a peaceful environment where all citizens can freely practice their faith.
