Eva Longoria believes that Liga MX is undervalued
The owner of Rayos del Necaxa explained the reasons why she invested in the club. Longoria acknowledged that she knows nothing about soccer
In 2021, Rayos del Necaxa had new active owners. 50% of the club was bought by the investment group NX Football. Eva Longoria is part of this entity. The renowned actress revealed the reasons why she decided to invest in this Mexican team. His goals are titles, despite not knowing anything about soccer.
In addition to Eva Longoria, NX Football also features other renowned former athletes and celebrities such as Kate Upton, Justin Verlander, Mesut Azil, Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenny, among others. Eva Longoria felt that Mexican soccer wasn't given the value it deserved and decided to get her hands on it.
"We feel like it's an underrated league; there's so much talent, fans, and legendary teams like Necaxa. So we thought it was a smart idea to invest in Liga MX," Longoria said in an interview with Mediotiempo.
In this sense, Rayos del Necaxa was the club selected. Eva Longoria's goal is for this team to once again compete at the top of Mexican soccer and increase its exposure through major audiovisual pieces.
"We wanted to find a team we could inject capital into and watch it grow until it wins the championship again. Then we decided to document it because we thought it would be a good story. I want to use my platform and my voice to shine a spotlight on the people who work here and improve Necaxa's image," she added.
She doesn't know about Liga MX
Eva Longoria was very honest about her contribution on a soccer level: she is not well-versed in this discipline. However, the renowned actress believes she can help the club in other areas, such as creating an identity based on the club's history. Longoria uses their tools to enhance Necaxa's name from a communications standpoint.
I don't know anything about Mexican soccer, my husband made fun of me and said: 'Why would you buy Necaxa?' Because he's a Cruz Azul fan. He knows everything about Mexican soccer, "She grew up in Mexico and knows all the players. I don't know anything about soccer, but I know people and I'm good at telling stories, so that's where I want to contribute. I don't make any decisions about plays and how to win and lose, but I like telling these stories." I have explained.
Unfortunately for the efforts of the investors, the Rayos del Necaxa have not performed well since they took over half of the team: Clausura 2021 (18), Apertura 2021 (14), Clausura 2022 (9), Apertura 2022 (12), Clausura 2023 (17), Apertura 2023 (18), Clausura 2024 (9), Apertura 2024 (13) and Clausura 2025 (5).
