Thai Navy Ship Sunk: A heart-wrenching incident took place on the evening of 18 December, where a Thai Navy ship sank during a storm in the Gulf of Thailand. A Thai Navy ship capsized during a storm in the Gulf of Thailand, trapping more than 100 sailors, officials said today (19 December). BBC quoted the Royal Thai Navy as saying that although there were no deaths, there were reports of more than 100 people drowning in the tragic incident. It is being told that the search for about 31 people is still going on.

It is being told that relief and rescue work is going on. The condition of some of the people evacuated is very serious. HTMS Sukhothai was patrolling the waters just 32 km off the coast of Bang Sapan district in Prachuap Kheri Khan province when it got caught in a storm at around 11:30 am on Sunday (December 18) and the ship sank. The Royal Thai Navy dispatched three frigates and two helicopters with mobile pumping machines to try to assist the disabled ship by removing seawater, but was unable to do so due to strong winds.

It is being told that this ship sank further due to allowing sea water to flow into the vessel. It happened when the warship was on patrol at sea 32 kilometers (20 mi) from the pier in Bangsafan district in Prachuap Kheri Khan province. The frigate rescued 78 of the 106 sailors aboard Sukhotai. Officials said the search continued through the night to locate all the crew. While northern and central Thailand are seeing their coldest temperatures of the year, far southern Thailand has been experiencing storms and floods in recent days.
