The Supreme Court of America has given a major decision on Friday. The court has refused to ban Mifepristone, a widely used abortion pill. Let me tell you, earlier this bullet was banned by the lower courts.

The legal battle surrounding mifepristone began when a federal judge in Texas ordered a nationwide ban on the drug. The drug was said to be used to kill the child even before it was born. 

Mifepristone is commonly used for abortion. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of Mifepristone tablets. Federal judges in Texas and Washington, USA, on March 7, 2023, ruled to ban the Mifepristone drug. President Joe Biden's Justice Department filed an emergency appeal, asking the Supreme Court to block the lower court's decision.

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the Food and Drug Administration's approval of the widely used abortion pill mifepristone. The Supreme Court has effectively stayed the lower court rulings pending a court hearing on appeals by the Justice Department and mifepristone maker Danko Laboratories. Biden said the lower court rulings undermined the FDA's medical judgment and put women's health at risk. He said that the decision of the Supreme Court makes it clear that the drug Mifepristone is safe. 

This drug was approved in the US in the year 2000. So far more than 50 lakh people have used it. Mifepristone is used in more than half of abortions in the US.

Before the court took action, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the administration was prepared for whatever action the bench would take. If need be, we are ready for a long legal battle as well. This is our commitment and our promise to millions of women across the country.
