The discovery in the garbage room
According to authorities, the NYCHA worker was attempting to remove trash when he noticed one of the bags was unusually heavy. Upon opening it, he discovered human remains that were later identified as those of Montgomery.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after 9:30 am In a brief statement, the NYPD confirmed that no arrests have been made and that the investigation remains open.
Her last appearance on social media
Less than 12 hours before the discovery, Montgomery had posted a video on Facebook showing her dancing at Mama Taco restaurant in the Williamsburg area. The video was uploaded at 11:19 pm on Saturday. Close friends of the victim told local news station WPIX that they do not recognize the people who appear with her in the recording. “We have no idea who they are,” said one friend, who added that Montgomery used to tag the people she dated on social media. The family is demanding answers. Montgomery lived with her husband and children in the Gowanus neighborhood, also in Brooklyn. Her husband, Anthony Echevarria, spoke with several local media outlets to ask for the public's help in clarifying what happened. “I trust her judgment, I trust how she handled herself,” Echevarria told News 12 Brooklyn, although he admitted he didn't understand how his wife ended up in another neighborhood. “I can't understand why I was there,” he stated. Speaking to WPIX, the man was blunt: "Find out what really happened. That's what will help bring the man who dismembered my wife to justice.""The medical examiner performed a preliminary autopsy on Monday but has not released the official cause of death, according to local media reports. Authorities continue to collect evidence and are seeking information that may help identify those responsible for one of the most shocking crimes recently recorded in Brooklyn.
