Newsom signed the law that prohibits federal agents on duty from wearing masks in California
California Governor Signs Other State Laws, Including Strengthening Immigrant Protections in Communities
California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a series of bills in Los Angeles on Saturday, improving protections for residents, while what he called the “secret police” continue to patrol the streets in ICE operations and raids under President Donald Trump.
The signing of five bills, all of them intended to limit the reach of federal agents to potentially vulnerable populations, occurred as Newsom was joined by several members of the California legislature, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.
The most prominent bill was the No Secret Police Act (SB 627), which would ban federal and local law enforcement, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), from wearing masks on duty. It will take effect on January 1st of next year.
Newsom posted a video on a person may be in the United States illegally.
The ruling allows officers to question and detain people based on their skin color, accent, and languages.
