President Donald Trump posted on social media Friday that he wants former President Bill Clinton and others mentioned in Jeffrey Epstein's emails released this week investigated.

Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee posted the Wednesday, a set of emails between convicted sex traffickers Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, among others, in which Trump was repeatedly mentioned, was released. The emails were released by Representative Robert Garcia, a California Democrat and the ranking Democratic member of the committee. In a post on Truth Social, President Trump accused Democrats of focusing on what he calls the “Epstein hoax” to deflect blame for the government shutdown, which ended Wednesday and was the longest in U.S. history. “I will be asking Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice, along with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, JPMorgan Chase, and many other individuals and institutions, to determine what was going on with them and with him,” the president wrote. “This is another Russia, Russia, Russia hoax, with all signs pointing to the Democrats. Records show that these men, and many others, spent much of their lives with Epstein and on his 'island.' Stay tuned!” Attorney General Pam Bondi announced shortly afterward that she had asked Jay Clayton, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, to lead the investigation. Clayton’s office covers matters in Manhattan and the Bronx, as well as the counties north of New York City. “As with all cases, the Department will investigate this with urgency and integrity to provide answers to the American people,” Bondi wrote in X.The announcement of the new investigation comes four months after the Justice Department and the FBI stated in a July memo that they had conducted a “thorough review” of material related to Epstein and found no evidence that could support an investigation into unindicted third parties. They also stated that there was no “client list” or “credible evidence” that Epstein had blackmailed prominent figures.
