America's Biden administration has made big decisions. President Joe Biden has nominated Indian-American lawyer Arun Subramaniam to be the District Judge of New York. 

The White House on Tuesday sent its proposal to the Senate for nomination to courts other than Subramaniam in the New York District Court. Subramaniam will become the first South Asian judge to serve on the US District Court for the Southern District of New York after Senate approval.

Subramaniam is currently a partner in the law firm Susman Godfrey LLP in New York. Here he is working since 2007. He served as a clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Supreme Court from 2006 to 2007. Prior to this, he served from 2005 to 2006 for Justice Gerard E. Lynch for the Southern District of New York. From 2004 to 2005, he was a law clerk for Judge Dennis Jacobs of the Court of Appeals. 

Subramaniam earned a JD from Columbia Law School in 2004 and a BA from Case Western Reserve University in 2001. The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association has congratulated Subramaniam on his nomination. eso. AB Cruz, Acting Chairman, said that Subramaniam is a seasoned lawyer, with a strong record of selfless service.

Indian-American Impact has also welcomed Subramaniam's nomination. The organization's executive director, Neil Makhija, said South Asians and Asian Americans have long been underrepresented in the US federal judiciary. In the case of district judges, it is less than five per cent, but in the last one year we have made historic progress. We await the final confirmation of Subramaniam's nomination to celebrate. 

In another important decision, the US government has taken several steps to set up manufacturing units of semiconductors in the country and increase their domestic production. Let us tell you, Taiwan is the largest producer of semiconductors. These are very important for automobiles and electronic equipment. Given Taiwan's ongoing conflict with China, the Biden government's decision to increase production assumes significance in view of potential shortages.

The US uses more than 25 percent of the world's semiconductor chips, but its production is very modest in the country. As such, it is a risk to national security. US Department of Trade Secretary Gina Raimondo said on Tuesday that the department has plans for $50 billion in this area. President Biden last month signed a $280 billion chips bill to boost domestic high-tech chips production units. Its purpose is to give a blow to China's monopoly in the semiconductor production sector. Raimondo said last year there was a severe shortage of chips for cars and home appliances. Due to this their prices had gone up a lot. According to the latest decision, an investment of $ 50 billion will be done to expand the production of chips in the US.
