The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has agreed to pay a dividend of Rs 87,416 crore to the Central Government. This decision was taken during the meeting of the board of the central bank. The decision was taken in the 602nd meeting of the Central Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of India chaired by Governor Shaktikanta Das. Earlier in the financial year 2021-22, RBI had given a dividend of Rs 30,307 crore to the government. Along with this, the RBI board has decided to increase the contingency risk buffer from the current level of 5.5 percent to 6 percent.

In a statement issued by the central bank, it was said that the current global and domestic economic conditions were reviewed in the board meeting held on Friday. Along with this, the challenges related to global political developments and its effects were also discussed. The functioning of the central bank between April 2022 and March 2023 was also reviewed under the chairmanship of Governor Shaktikanta Das. During the meeting, the annual report and accounts of RBI for the financial year 2022-23 were also approved.
