A Long Beach resident was arrested on a federal criminal complaint accusing him of sending money to the terrorist organization ISIS.
Mark Lorenzo Villanueva, 28, of the Philippines, was charged with attempting to provide financial support economic aid to a foreign terrorist organization, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison, according to a statement from the Department of Justice.
According to an affidavit, Villanueva used social media to communicate with two people who identified themselves as members of ISIS. Villanueva allegedly expressed his desire to support the organization and offered to send them money to fund their terrorist activities.
